At the crossroads of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary demands, Atelier du Meuble Contemporain reimagines woodwork and related materials to create unique pieces and custom-built environments.

Driven by the encounter between expertise, design, and innovation, the workshop is a space for experimentation, where each project unfolds like a landscape to explore — furniture, interiors, and singular objects shaped with intent and precision.

Here, every gesture is enriched by the accuracy of modern tools and the depth of ancestral techniques. Always in search of new forms, materials, and methods of assembly, we reject any hierarchy between drawing and making, between idea and execution.

Atelier du Meuble Contemporain is an open space for dialogue — between architects, designers, artists, artisans, and clients — where every detail matters, where material becomes language, and where each project finds its balance between form, function, and context.

Origins of the Atelier

Atelier du Meuble Contemporain was founded in Paris by Bernard Mauffret, a craftsman with an unconventional path — from timber framing with the Compagnons du Devoir to architecture, percussion instrument making, wooden boat fitting, and design. Early on, he developed a cross-disciplinary approach to making, both technical and sensitive. The workshop was born from this vision: a space dedicated to the design and prototyping of contemporary furniture, in direct collaboration with designers, artists, and institutions.

His long-standing partnership with the Mobilier National, beginning in the early 2000s, and his own furniture line — including the Épure table, awarded in 2005 — embody his commitment to uniting structure, function, and expression.
In 2025, the atelier was taken over by a new team, trained over several years by Bernard Mauffret, in a spirit of continuity and openness. Today, Atelier du Meuble Contemporain carries on its work with the same dedication to bespoke craftsmanship — at the intersection of contemporary creation, attention to detail, and technical research.
